Contra/Gryzor confusion

The Japanese version of Contra is named Gryzor. It is to my understanding that no NES version of the game was ever named Gryzor, and that the name Gryzor was exclusive to the Arcade version of the European region release of the game. Check this topic at Romhacking.net:

And look a the box art... I can't read some of it, but the katakana definitely says Contra. I favor a name change for the game.
