I understand that the game wasn't released in the USA (thanks for that info), but what about the title? Most pictures I've seen list the game's name as being "Beethoven - The Ultimate Canine Caper!" However, this particular box picture I've found for the game lists the name as "Beethoven" with no "'s 2nd" in the title.

See:

http://gameboy.ign.com/objects/010/010270.html (one title)
http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/gameboy/image/575111.html (another title)

One of those titles is the correct title. "Beethoven's 2nd" however, is wrong based on box name.

Both are for a never released USA game, as indicated by BigFred.

It's just a matter of finding an EUR GB boxart, which doesn't want to pop up. Probably it is "Beethoven - The Ultimate Canine Caper!".

I'm an amateur at this, so please help me if you can: What should I look for to spot a European box? That is, what would identify the box as European? That way I can look around for the appropriate box.

I'm not expert at all either :P

Quick identification: Nintendo Seal of Quality is circular for EUR games and elliptical for USA ones.

You can try ebay auctions for seller pictures when they don't seem to appear at common sources (google images, gamefaqs, etc.). I've alrady tried without success, though.

There is one box on ebay.de right now. It looks like the ign picture is correct, and the right title is "Beethoven - Based on the Hit Movie Beethoven's 2nd".

What I've found on ebay.de is an EUR cart (not box) picture which follow the (never released US) boxart at ign.

According to the cart picture I would rename the game to simply "Beethoven".

The ebay auction with the box is currently there http://cgi.ebay.de/BEETHOVEN-KOMPLETT-OVP-GAME-BOY-/400147290462?pt=de_entertainment_games&hash=item5d2aa3195e , sorry, but I couldn't download his picture.

Naming the game Beethoven is probably correct, since the subtitle is just a bit of advertising.

Thanks a lot Vorsch.
