I'm re-verifying my ROMs and noticed that my "Wonder Boy in Monster World (USA, Europe)" ROM is no longer valid. Looks like the majority of submitted dumps have been deprecated because they're trimmed, which makes sense. However, my particular version (MD5: 4b4acbe75ff7aaeb534ab78ed95910d1) was dumped from the Genesis Mini, and I see that same version was included on the Wii VC, the Mega Drive Classics collection, etc. So even through it's trimmed, it's still an official release. Does it make sense to remove it from the DAT file even though it's an accurate representation of multiple official releases? I feel like that should be added as a new variant or something instead.

If it matches other than the trimming, then we just say that collection used a trimmed ROM, which we don't include here. If it has any differences in the game data itself, it would be a new entry. Just because a trimmed ROM was used on an official collection doesn't make it more valid than if it wasn't.
For example see some Intellivision games where official collections included old dumps with noise in the padding. Those have since been declared bad, as they used the original dumps floating around the web, which didn't have accurate padding for 12kb games, dumping them at 16kb - but still ran fine. Those are bad overdumps, and the fact they got thrown on an official disc doesn't change that.
I had a lot of questions like this when working on that Intellivision stuff and correcting it, so hopefully this helps!
Now the ones where they altered a game's text to say 'Press A' instead of 'Press Start' get their own entries, as the game data is different.

I should add that we DO want to include those, marked trimmed/bad or whatever, on the DOM here, so that others searching their hashes can find them and see they match etc. We just exclude them from the dat. They should still be recorded, and yours serves as a useful recording of what's on that compilation.

Thanks, Psychofox11. That makes sense. It's just weird now having that one entry in my collection come up as unverified. I could download the updated dump, of course, but I prefer to stick to my own dumped ROMs wherever possible. I don't know... I may have to bend on this one. That unverified status is going to bug me every time I see it. :-)
